Androgenic alopecia can cause baldness in some men. This “male pattern baldness” usually occurs in the center of the scalp and around the crown. This can be a very uncomfortable problem for many individuals. Not only is it embarrassing, but it can make a lot of men look a lot older than they really are. Of course, women can have thinning and balding problems with their hair as well, but this is a problem that mostly affects men, and they are who we will be primarily talking today.
Natural Remedies for Hair Loss
If you prefer to try something at home before going directly to a doctor or a prescription or over the counter medication, there are a number of natural remedies that you can try. Let’s take a look.
- A Massage of the ScalpMassaging the scalp can help with your hair regrowth in many ways. You can give yourself a massage or go to a professional for one. Use an oil to help with the massage. For example, castor, amla or olive oils do great things for your roots.
- Fenugreek Seed PasteFenugreek or methi seeds can help to rebuild the follicles on your hair and also stimulate the growth of your hair. Simply mix together some water with the seeds from methi. One cup of the seeds would be fine. Put this mixture on your head and leave it on for about 30 to 40 minutes. Rinse out in the shower or bath.
- Onion Juice
This next one may sound crazy, but it could really work for you. A recent study found that onion juice can help patients who have chronic hair loss all over their bodies, also known as alopecia areata. To use this method of hair treatment, use a grater on an onion to get the juice out, then apply it to the roots of your hair. Rub it in slightly and leave it on for 20 minutes before rinsing and washing with a mild shampoo.
Try a Medical Procedure
If you are not interested in trying any natural remedies or if they didn’t seem to work for you, there are medical procedures that you can try as well. Some medications work for certain men, but the main procedure that could be performed by a doctor for thinning or balding hair, is hair transplants.
This procedure entails small patches of hair to be taken from one part of your head where there is a lot of hair. Usually this is from the back of the head. Then, these hairs are moved one by one or in small chunks to areas on top of the head where you are balding or experiencing thinning. The procedure can be slightly expensive, but it is very effective for many men.
Use Foams, Lotions and Pills
There are many foams and lotions out there that are either over the counter or prescription, and these may be able to help you greatly on your quest to better, thicker hair.
1. Minoxidil Rogaine for Hair Loss
Of all solutions for baldness or thinning hair, Rogaine is likely the most popular. Rogaine uses the chemical called minoxidil to help men grow their hair back. Minoxidil inhibits hair loss and helps to promote regrowth. It actually reactivates the growth cycle of your hair when it works properly. This solution comes in the form of a foam and can be used on both men and women.
2. Finastride Propecia for Hair Loss
If you prefer to take a pill for your hair loss, you can try finastride propecia. This is a prescription medication that you will need to talk to your doctor about first. If they can prescribe this for you, then it can work wonders for men and hair loss around the middle of the head and all around the crown area.
3. Saw Palmetto for Hair Loss
Many people know Saw Palmetto as an actual location in the U.S., but it is a plant too, and you can use it to make a medicine that is perfect for hair loss. This plant can be used to help men especially, when they have thinning hair or particular bald spots. Some key treatments make solutions out of saw palmetto especially.
4. Provillus for Hair Loss
Provillus is a hair solution that is topical. This solution contains minoxidil, which is a chemical that was approved by the FDA for helping hair grow back. Along with putting Provillus on your hair as a medical topical treatment, you will also be getting a vitamin to take with essential minerals and botanicals to help you regrow your hair and prevent more balding and thinning.
Take a Look at Your Overall Health
Last but not least, consider how healthy you are overall. Are you taking care of your body? There are many different foods that can help you stay healthy overall but they can also help you keep your hair from thinning and your head from balding.
For example, try fruits and vegetables that are yellow, orange and red. These foods include cantaloupe, potatoes (sweet), some bell peppers, carrots and oranges. Omega-3 fatty acids will also help, so try to consume fish like sardines and salmon. Lastly, some other foods that will help you in the hair loss arena include those with lots of vitamin B7, like cereals, chicken and eggs and those with lots of vitamin A, like spinach. As a final note, try to drink lots of water each day to stay hydrated and reduce stress in your life as stress can cause hair loss in some instances.
Make sure that you adhere to all of the directions here to help your thinning and balding hair. Try the different home health remedies, and also talk to your doctor about some of the shampoos and other topical solutions to try. Soon, you’ll have a full head of hair to be proud of!
